The Ohio EPA has laid out a stream mitigation plan for creeks that were affected by the Norfolk Southern train derailment.

It includes a more complete clean-up of derailment-related contaminants that cause an oily sheen in the creeks.

Crews will be evaluating clean-up techniques for both Sulfar Run and Leslie Run--and will create their own set of tactics that will work best for each creek.

After the evaluations are done, crews will be in the creeks, executing their plans.

"You'll see crews working on the creeks throughout the summer most likely," said Mark Durno, Response Coordinator for the U.S. EPA. "Just be mindful. Please Obey the posted signs to stay out of the creek. We don't want anyone to come into contact with those oily sediments until the cleanup is complete."

Durno says that it will take months to remediate the creeks and to remove all the contaminants that are creating the oily sheen on the water's surface.
