Sharon to support animal charities through its St. Patrick's day celebration

St. Patrick's Day is right around the corner and while many will be celebrating everything green and orange, Sharon is getting ready to celebrate everything with four legs and fur.
This year, the city is hosting its second annual Slainte (pronounced Slawncha) Sharon St. Patrick's Day Parade by putting a spotlight on the animal charities that rescue and care for animals in the community.
The parade will be at 6 p.m. this Saturday, March 16. During the parade, a collection will be done for animal care products to support organizations that take care of animals.
All items collected at the parade will be split among The Shenango Valley Animal Shelter, StrayHaven Animal Shelter and Tails of Hope in Hermitage, and the Animal Protection League of Western PA in Greenville.
Contestants in this year's parade will also be judged by representatives from each of the animal organizations.
Near the end of the parade a special area away from the noise will have animals dressed up in different costumes.
Before the parade, organizers are hosting the innuagural Leprechaun Dash at 5:30 p.m. The free run will be about .7 miles long and begins at Quaker Steak & Lube, goes along the parade route with a turnaround at Penn State Shenango and goes back to the Lube.
