Ultium Cells letting former GM Lordstown workers tour facility before deciding to come home

Former GM Lordstown workers will get the opportunity to tour Ultium Cells before choosing to come home.
According to United Auto Workers Local 1112 Chairman Josh Ayers, Ultium Cells has agreed to host the eligible former employees for an open house on March 28, 29 and April 1.
21 News reported Monday that former GM Lordstown Assembly plant employees have six months to decide whether they'll return to the Valley. While it's unclear how many employees Ultium is looking to add, those interested must apply for any opening the EV battery plant has open, according to the transfer agreement.
The first to apply could be selected for transfer as soon as April 15.
The details of the Lordstown Transfer Agreement have been released, and show:
- Positions are offered as GM Leased Employees to Ultium Cells, since Ultium Cell is a joint venture between LG Energy Solution and General Motors.
- GM Leased Employees will work for Ultium Cells leadership; independent from General Motors.
Ayers said he doesn't have any information yet on how many people have applied or are interested in transferring to Ultium Cells.
"Those who are interested, I highly recommend to embrace the opportunity and sign up for one of the scheduled open houses," Ayers said.
