A man arrested during a search warrant back in January of 2024 has now been indicted by a grand jury on multiple rape charges.

21 News previously reported that 35-year-old John Johnson was arrested on charges of having weapons while under disability and drug paraphernalia.

However, court records show the drug paraphernalia charge and one count of having weapons while under disability were both amended to rape following an indictment. One count of having weapons while under disability remains unchanged.

According to a police report from Boardman PD, the rape charges stem from an alleged incident that occurred at a New Year's Eve party.

Police say at some point during the early morning hours of January 1, Johnson brought the victim up to his room where he eventually "got aggressive" and made her perform oral sex on him.

Police went on to allege that after briefly leaving the room, Johnson came back, pulled down the victim's pants and proceeded to rape her and continued to do so when she asked him to stop.

Police say the victim was bleeding from her genitalia following the incident. According to the report, the victim was transported by a friend to the hospital where a rape kit was done on her.

According to police, the victim left her vehicle and cell phone at Johnson's house, but Johnson refused to comply with the victim's request to return them to her.

A few days after the alleged incident, police conducted an authorized search warrant at Johnson's home pertaining to the investigation.

It was there that police seized bedding items, as well as two cell phone handsets, a handgun, suspected drugs and drug paraphernalia from the room where the alleged incident occurred.

Police also located a white towel with suspected blood stains inside a washing machine in the home.

Officers then spoke with Johnson, who police say insisted the sexual activity was consentual. He was arrested and originally charged with drug paraphernalia and having weapons while under disability.

Court records show these charges to have been amended to rape following an indictment. No court date has been set for Johnson at this time.
