Pennsylvania releases safety resources for viewing the solar eclipse

SHENANGO VALLEY - With the total solar eclipse nearing, the state of Pennsylvania is preparing for the increase of visitors and travelers.
The path of totality will impact the Shenango Valley in Mercer county.
Totality will occur from 3:16 p.m. to 3:20 p.m., with the eclipse concluding at around 4:30 p.m.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission will be working to keep all lanes of traffic heading to and from Erie on I-79 and will have additional maintenance personnel in case of an emergency.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation urges the following safety tips for those driving during this time:
- Plan ahead for longer travel times.
- Turn on your headlights.
- Exit the highway to view the eclipse.
- Be alert for vehicles stopped on the shoulder.
- Put down your phone while driving, and
- Take off eclipse glasses while driving.
