Grove City man not guilty of attempted murder, guilty of lesser charges in split verdict

Mercer County, Pa. - The jury in the case of a Grove City man accused of trying to run over a state trooper returned a split verdict Friday.
Mercer County District Attorney Peter Acker, John Barlow Jr., 60, was found not guilty of attempted murder. Barlow was also found not guilty on three out of five assault charges.
However, the jury did find Barlow guilty of aggravated assault of a law enforcement official, resisting arrest, reckless endangering and driving with a suspended license.
The charges stem from an incident where Barlow allegedly led state troopers on a chase while they were to serve a warrant for his arrest on May 15, 2022. According to the police report, Barlow drove off-road and officers lost sight of him for a time.
Reports say officers found Barlow a considerable distance down the roadway and ordered him to get out of the car. That's when Barlow allegedly drove towards an officer, causing him to shoot at the car.
He evaded police but was later arrested in Butler County.
Barlow's sentencing hearing is scheduled for May 29.
