Jury trial delayed for suspect in arson that killed Warren teen

WARREN, Ohio - A jury trial scheduled to begin in two weeks for a suspect in a fatal arson that claimed the life of a Warren teen has been delayed.
During a Monday afternoon pretrial hearing attorneys discussed obtaining records from Mahoning County pertaining to Zarlingo stating that while they're expecting these records by Friday, they will need longer than two weeks to look over them.
That's why attorneys requested the jury trial scheduled for April 1 be continued.
"I appreciate that my client's sitting in jail presumed innocent, and we want to get her trial done, but we cannot go forward in good conscience ... without getting these records and examining them," said attorney Anthony Meranto.
Zarlingo's attorneys as well as Judge Sean O'Brien recognized that Zarlingo wanted to get her trial underway on April 1, but agreed that it would be in her best interest to have these files thoroughly examined before her trial begins.
"I'm not really pleased with continuing this case, but given the fact of what these circumstances are, the court has no alternative but to grant the motion," Judge O'Brien said.
The jury trial for Zarlingo is now scheduled to begin July 23.
Zarlingo is one of three suspects in the deadly arson that killed 16-year-old Chassidy Broadstone back in January of 2023. The only suspect to have pled so far is 24-year-old Zackary Gurd who investigators say was the one who brought the can of gasoline that started the blaze.
The third suspect Brendan Daviduk is due back in court March 22. Attorneys have indicated that a plea deal is possible for him.
