Parole denied for man convicted of killing bicyclist in Warren

A man convicted of shooting and killing a bicyclist in Warren nearly 23 years ago will continue to spend his days behind bars.
The Ohio State Parole Board has denied parole for Benjamin Green, 40, who shot and killed 18-year-old John Williamson who was riding his bicycle on the streets of Warren. Green was 16 at the time.
A previous letter by Trumbull County Prosecutor, Dennis Watkins, opposing his bid for parole stated Williamson fell off the bicycle after being shot at, at which point Green came up to him and shot him in the head.
Green told detectives he shot Williamson because he thought he was armed and was afraid of him.
Watkins disagreed with this defense though saying Williamson wasn't doing anything that could be seen as dangerous. He adds that Williamson was only 4'3" and weighed less than 100 pounds.
According to court records, Green will be available for his next release on parole in March 2028.
