HOWLAND, Ohio - The Trumbull County Transportation Improvement District will be meeting on Wednesday to discuss traffic accommodations for a roadway that's been affected by the ongoing diverging diamond interchange project in Howland.

Trumbull County Commissioner Dennis Malloy tells 21 News that the Transportation Improvement District will be meeting at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday to discuss the potential widening of the roadway near Mines Road and State Route 46 and adding a left turning lane at the intersection.

We're told this is to accommodate for traffic at this intersection due to the diverging diamond interchange project.

The project began in the fall of 2023 with the end goal of reducing traffic congestion on State Routes 46 and 82 in Howland and make it easier for drivers to get around.

As it stands, the following lane restrictions are in place until November.

- SR-46 between Market Street and U.S. 422 will have various lane restrictions

- SR-82 between Elm Road and Howland Wilson Road will have various lane restrictions

- The ramp from East Market Street to SR-82 is closed through November 2024. The detour is East Market Street to SR-46 to SR-82.

The project is expected to be completed in 2026.
