Former Liberty Board of Education Vice-President Christopher Brookbank has been convicted of leaving the scene of an accident where he ran his car into a utility pole.

Brookbank was found guilty of a reduced misdemeanor charge of being in control of a vehicle while under the influence. Instead of time behind bars, he will be required to go to a driver intervention program.

He was also placed on probation for two years with a six month license suspension, according to court records.

In December, police and firefighters were called to Logan Way and Churchill Hubbard Road to investigate a reported crash.

On scene, they found a shattered utility pole and car parts from a Buick, but no car and no driver.

A short time later police say they found Brookbank’s damaged Buick at Logan Way and Colonial Drive. When the police found Brookbank nearby, they said in their report that he was stumbling.

Brookbank was handcuffed and taken to the police station where officers say he refused field sobriety and breath tests.
