LEETONIA, Ohio - A girl scout in Leetonia is looking to raise money for her Gold Award Project with the goal of giving Columbiana Middle School students a new way to play.

21 News caught up with Crystal Boggs, the mother and girl scout leader of Elizabeth Siembida. Boggs tells us Siembida just got approval from the Gold Award Committee to move forward with her project to install a gaga ball pit on the playground at Columbiana Middle School.

Boggs tells 21 News that gaga ball is a game similar to dodgeball in which players gather in a pit and throw a ball and must avoid being struck. Players who are struck are eliminated.

Siembida was originally considering other equipment for the playground such as monkey bars, but Boggs tells us once she discovered a gaga ball pit while on a girl scout trip, she shifted her focus on that.

In addition to the pit itself, Siembida is also looking to install signage about the rules of the game, landscaping to the area surrounding the pit and to make it handicap accessible.

Siembida is looking to raise $10,000 for the project and has until September 1 to do it. She's in the process of looking for ways to fundraise for the project, but is not allowed to sell anything or create an online fundraiser.

Boggs tells 21 News Siembida has applied for a grant from the Columbiana Community Foundation, but won't know how much she gets or if she gets it until sometime in April.

In the meantime, Siembida has arranged a two-week-long event at The Barbershop of Columbiana beginning April 1 where $2 for every haircut goes towards the project. Customers can voluntarily donate more as well.

Anyone interested in donating can also make a donation in the form of a check or money order to Girl Scout Troop 80777 to PO Box 557 Columbiana 44408.
