Another university is stepping in to help Eastern Gateway Community College (EGCC) students who are being impacted by the college's potential closure.

According to the release, Western Governors University (WGU) is offering $3,000 scholarships for those affected by Eastern Gateway's impending closure.

An estimated 9,000 EGCC online students will be impacted by the closure and nearly 1,000 others attend in-person classes at the Steubenville and Youngstown campuses. All students can apply for the scholarship if they choose to continue their education at WGU.

"Due to circumstances out of their control, Eastern Gateway Community College students must now seek alternative options to continue their pursuit of higher education," said Alison Bell, WGU Regional Vice President. "Breaking down barriers and eliminating obstacles that stand between individuals and their dreams of earning a college degree has been WGU's mission for more than 25 years. In that same spirit, we are focused on making this a seamless transition for Eastern Gateway students who choose to continue their education at WGU. I am proud of our university for stepping in and creating a pathway to degree completion for these students during this very difficult time."

WGU is a fully online university that offers more than 60 degrees in business, IT, nursing and more. They had a standing partnership with Eastern Gateway since 2016.
