Weathersfield Police conduct standoff after man allegedly threatens to shoot himself

A Youngstown man is accused of inducing panic and menacing after he allegedly threatened to kill himself in the woods and threatened police officers.
According to a police report from Weathersfield PD, officers responded to the 1800 Block of James B Drive just before 2:30 a.m. Monday, April 1 in reference to a suicidal male.
Upon arrival, police spoke with a woman who told officers she had picked 32-year-old Joel Petefish from a bar in Austintown and then took him back to her apartment to hang out.
Police say at some point, Petefish got a phone call from someone and then got upset, told the woman to go to her room and followed her there with a loaded revolver.
The woman told police once the two got to her room, Petefish put the revolver up to his head and threatened to kill himself in the woods followed by leaving for the woods with the gun.
Police say Petefish quickly came back and when the woman told him she didn't hear the gunshot he responded "This is your last warning ... Respect me" and went back into the room with the weapon.
At this point, a standoff occurred when police tried to get Petefish to come out of the apartment. Police say after 15 minutes, he came outside only to go back inside again stating he was tired and wanted to go to sleep.
At this point, Niles police were called to the scene with officers repeatedly trying to get Petefish to come out of the apartment. According to the report, Petefish told police he would not come out unless there was a charge against him.
Eventually, police say Petefish slightly opened the door and began threatening officers stating he knew where they lived and would "come after" them.
At this point, police were able to subdue Petefish after shooting him in the torso three times with non-lethal beanbag shots.
Petefish was taken into police custody and was charged with aggravated menacing, domestic violence, inducing panic, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
He was taken to Trumbull Regional Medical Center for treatment and was booked into the Trumbull County Jail the following day. According to court records, this case has been bound over to a grand jury.
