A family-owned grocery store that has operated as part of the Eastwood Mall complex for the last 17 years is closing its doors.

According to a media release, Nile’s Save A Lot announced it would be permanently closing its doors on April 27 because of slower sales for the last five years at that location, and didn't renew it's lease.

The store issued the following statement: "We are very proud to be a part of the Eastwood Mall complex at this time. Unfortunately, the store will be closing because it has been underperforming over the last 5 years and we have come to the end of our lease. The store will be closing on or before April 27th."

The store will continue to operate until its last day, and the owners noted that Save A Lot shoppers are encouraged to visit other locations within the Valley, including stores closest to the Niles store:

  • Champion location on 4329A Mahoning Avenue NW in Warren
  • Warren location at 1020 North Park Avenue in Warren
  •  Youngstown location 253 Gypsy Lane in Youngstown

While the store is closing, the family-owned business will relocate all Niles employees to one of our other store locations.

The notice concluded, "We thank our loyal customers and community for choosing to shop local and apologize for any inconvenience."

Niles mayor Steve Mientkiewicz tells 21 News he has not heard from the Cafaro Company, which owns the building and property where the store sits, about any plans for a new tenant. We also reached out to the Cafaro Company, and are waiting for a statement.

Save A Lot has 17 locations in Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania and is a fourth-generation family business operated for over 35 years by the Nemenz and Kawecki families.
