A Youngstown man who raped and sexually abused a four-year-old girl nearly 10 years ago has learned his fate in court on Friday.

Fifty-eight-year-old Todd Perkins was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison on charges of rape and gross sexual imposition. He must also register as a tier 3 sex offender for the rest of his life.

The charges stem from incidents that occurred between 2015 and 2016 with Perkins raping a girl who was just four years old at the time.

The four-year-old girl, now 11 years old, was one of two victims. Perkins was originally convicted of two counts of rape and sentenced to 15 years to life in prison back in 2021.

However, an appeals court ruled that the court should have granted Perkins's request for separate trials for the two victims.

In a press release, Mahoning County Prosecutor Gina DeGenova says cases like this are why the Mahoning County Prosecutor's Office established its Special Victims Unit.

"We are unwavering in our commitment to hold accountable those who commit such despicable crimes against children. If you commit such acts
in Mahoning County, our team of law enforcement officers and prosecutors will relentlessly pursue justice within the bounds of the law," DeGenova said.
