MLB: Pirates "Brewing" for special season

The Pirates are in first place in the National League Central with a 6-1 record.
Yes, its only the first weekend in April, but the team has shown they can compete for a playoff spot.
"The expectation is to get better and we talked about that since we got here five years ago," said Manager Derek Shelton.
"I feel with this group we have more depth and that was something we were intentional about making sure when we went out an added people to our core group."
The group consists of Bryan Reynolds, O'Neil Cruz, Mitch Keller and Ke'Bryan Hayes.
"It's a long season and we have to be consistent, keep on doing what we're good at and just out each other," stated Reynolds.
Since 2000 they've only had four winning seasons, the last one in 2018 and feel the mixture of young and veterans could be the perfect combination.
"I think depth is a big part of it," said Shelton. "The fact that we added veterans that have been on the field on winning teams can really help your clubhouse.
"I certainly think so," said relief pitcher David Bednar when asked if the team can compete for a playoff spot. "I know everyone else feels the same way. Some of the young guys got there feet wet last year and bringing in some veteran guys can only help with those peaks and valleys during the season."
