A Boardman man faces charges a felony charge of unauthorized use of property after allegedly using his employer's access to data meant for use only by law enforcement officials as an investigative tool.

According to the Ohio Attorney General's Office Investigative Report, Jason Carron, 41, worked as a patrol officer for Akron Children's Hospital in Boardman and used the facility's access and "queried his own information on March 32, 2021," a violation of state rules and regulations regarding the access to the Ohio Law Enforcement  Gateway (OHLEG).

Officials at the facility conducted and reviewed Carron's access, finding Carron may be responsible for 17 OHLEG violations, including potentially looking at information involving Carron and a Poland Township investigation.

Carron was charged with five felonies of the fifth-degree counts for unauthorized use of property.

Carron's bond was set at $10,000 and will have a preliminary hearing on May 2 at 4 p.m. in Judge Joseph Houser's courtroom.
