Fish Ohio released fishing records from Lake Erie that show 3,916 catches of trophy fish were submitted to in 2023, according to the Ohio Department of National Resources Division of Wildlife.

Those trophy fish came from 17 different species.

Popular species that anglers were on the hunt for include walleye, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, and channel fish. Anyone who reeled in a qualifying catch can get a commemorative Fish Ohio pin for their first entry, and a Master Angler pin for catching qualifying fish from four different species in the same year.

Applications for a Fish Ohio pin, and information about minimum length requirements are found at fishohio.gov.

Lake Erie saw more Fish Ohio submissions in 2023 then an other body of water in the state.

Remember to purchase an Ohio license before fishing in public waters. An Ohio resident license is $25. It lasts one year from its purchase date and is required for all anglers ages 16 and older.
