YOUNGSTOWN - A Canadian citizen is due in Youngstown Municipal Court on Friday after being accused of trashing an elevator at the DoubleTree Hotel.

Josue Garcia Cruz is being held in the Mahoning County jail on a charge of vandalism following his arrest early Thursday.

According to a police report, Garcia Cruz is accused of demolishing a sign and damaging the inside of an elevator at the hotel on East Federal Street.

Police say they found pieces of the sign on the lobby floor and in an elevator, which was gouged, dented, and scratched.

A hotel employee told police she saw Garcia Cruz standing in front of the elevator before hearing several loud, smashing noises.

The employee also told officers that Garcia Cruz shoved her and repeatedly hurled curses.

Police were called to remove Garcia Cruz from the hotel.  Garcia Cruz, who police say appeared to be staggering and slurring his words, was arrested.

The police report says an officer allowed Garcia Cruz to contact the Canadian Consulate, but he declined.
