Charges dismissed against suspect in 2021 Youngstown murder
Charges against a man accused of murdering a man in Youngstown back in 2021 have been dropped.
According to court records charges of murder, involuntary manslaughter, burglary and having weapons while under disability were dismissed against 35-year-old Calvin Shelton.
Shelton was originally accused of the murder of 27-year-old Marquis Lewis in his Plum Street home back in November of 2021.
Shelton was arrested during a traffic stop in Campbell back in October of 2023. During the traffic stop, he was also charged with falsification after police said he tried to use a false name to identify himself.
Campbell Municipal Court records show that Shelton had pled guilty to an amended charge of disorderly conduct in that case.
21 News has reached out to the Mahoning County Prosecutor's Office to find out why these charges were dismissed and we're waiting to hear back.
