YOUNGSTOWN - Mercy Health's St. Elizabeth Hospital of Youngstown has earned Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center certification from the Joint Commission.

This distinction is given to hospitals that are primary stroke centers, can perform endovascular thrombectomy procedures and provide post-procedural care.

"A Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center Certification recognizes healthcare organizations committed to striving for excellence and fostering continuous improvement in patient safety and quality of care," said Ken Grubbs, DNP, MBA, RN, executive vice president of Accreditation and Certification Operations and chief nursing officer of the Joint Commission.

The hospital has been a certified primary stroke center since 2004 and continues to remain as one of the only hospitals in the area to have this distinction.
