An Austintown man has been indicted on assault charges following an alleged fight in September 2023 with a Youngstown Police officer inside the police station on West Boardman Street in the city.

Keishaun Sims, 26, was arrested on September 15 after he allegedly demanded to speak to a manager but did not provide a reason why.

According to the police report, the officer on duty told Sims that he could not refer him to anyone without a reason and asked him to leave, but he continued "rambling on and not making sense." Police say the officer told Sims he believed him to be in need of mental health care, which agitated him even more.

The officer went into the lobby to speak with Sims, continuously asking him to leave, when Sims allegedly began striking the officer hitting him in the left side of the face and head.

Sims is facing two counts of assault. No date has been set for his court appearance.
