Mercy Health to close Canfield Surgical Center in June, 13 employees to be laid off

CANFIELD, Ohio - Mercy Health has announced that it will be closing its surgical facility in Canfield effective in June.
According to a statement from Bon Secours Mercy Health Public Relations and Communications Director Erica Blake, the surgical center at 4147 Westford Drive in Canfield will close June 1.
The statement did not provide a specific reason for the closure, but does state that Mercy Health "continues to evolve to meet the health and well-being needs of [its] patients, communities, associates and clinicians."
Employees at the facility tell 21 News they were "blindsided" by this announcement. We're told the reason they were given was that the clinic was projected to lose $2.5 million per year.
However, employees are puzzled with this reasoning the facility just hired someone within the last five weeks, just got under new management and surgery numbers have picked up.
Employees tell us this closure will result in 13 employees being laid off. We're told these employees were offered other positions at Saint Elizabeth Hospital's Youngstown and Boardman campuses.
