21 News is proud to announce it's received three 2024 Emmy nominations, including for continuing coverage of the unforgettable train derailment in East Palestine.

The 55th Great Lakes Emmy nominations were announced Thursday morning.   The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences recognizes excellence in television news.

21 News crews were on the ground in East Palestine immediately following the train derailment.   We provided live updates from the scene as well as providing crucial evacuation information. That in depth coverage continues to this date. We continue to ask the tough questions and follow any developments in rail safety.    21 News is proud of this continuing coverage nomination.

As part of our East Palestine coverage, 6 and 11 news anchor Derek Steyer and videographer, Ron Martin traveled to Louisiana to take a closer look at how the community of Livingston recovered from a toxic train derailment in 1982.  What could East Palestine and surrounding communities learn from Livingston’s experience?   Derek and Ron’s 3-part series were also recognized by the NATAS chapter with a nomination in the category of Society Concerns.

21 News anchor Derek Steyer is also nominated for multimedia journalist.   He submitted a composite of some of his best work.  The judges were able to view a few samples of Derek’s work, viewers get to see his excellent work night after night.

The final awards ceremony will be held in Cleveland on Saturday, June 22nd.
