Almost 4,000 teenagers die in crashes every year, about 75% of those don't involve drugs or alcohol, according to Impact Teen Drivers (ITD).

The Trumbull Career & Technical Center's interactive multimedia students have created a social media campaign to address one of the biggest causes of teen deaths in the country - distracted driving.

Called "Believe it or not," the campaign looks to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving and how many teenagers are impacted by it.

The campaign is part of a context by ITD called Create Real Impact, which sees students create strategies and solutions to address reckless driving.

Ohio has seen a recent decline in distracted driving incidents among teenagers and young adults.

Data by the Ohio State Highway Patrol show that distracted driving accidents were at a five year low for drivers between 15 and 24 in 2023.

That decline may continue in 2024, which shows there has been a little more than 2,000 distracted driving accidents this year for drivers between the age of 15 and 24  so far.

New data shows that distracted driving numbers have been declining since Ohio enacted a new law that strengthened its distracted driving laws.

The data shows there is a 8.6% decrease in distracted driving since the law took effect.

On average, about 3,600 crashes, 2,000 injuries an 17 fatalities have been averted for drivers in all age groups, according to an estimation by Cambridge Mobile Telematics, which is tracking phone motion data from Ohio drivers.
