OHSAA in good financial shape, NIL not on table

The basketball state semi-finals and finals are changing. Per the approval of the OHSAA Board of Directors, the girls' and boys' basketball state semi-finals will be played a week before the state championship games.
"We'll play the state semi-finals at a neutral site after re-bracketing the week before the state finals," said Executive Director Doug Ute.
Three games will be played on Friday and four on Saturday. The two-state semi-finals will then be played at the University of Dayton.
Soccer is always changing venues. The state finals will be at Crew Stadium with 10 state championship games over a four-day period from Thursday through Monday.
According to Executive Director Doug Ute, the Ohio High School Athletic Association is at a good point financially.“We’ve had operating profits the last four years,” said Ute, adding each member school received $1,250 last year and hopes to make it $2,000 this year.
Ute said the OHSAA would not release the profit amount.
Ute also added the state semi-finals for basketball, volleyball, and soccer would be played at various sites and re-bracket based on geography for the state finals.
Other items:
-Ute said the OHSAA is happy with all state venues.
-OHSAA is exercising its options with the University of Dayton and Hall Of Fame in Canton.
Ohio is one of 16 states that does not have NIL for high school students. “Since it failed several years ago, not one person from any school district has asked me about it,” said Ute. He wants to keep the amateur status for athletes. Ute said he does not foresee a vote on NIL going to the membership anytime soon.
