City of Warren accepting bids for sidewalk improvement project

WARREN, Ohio - The City of Warren is now seeking bids for a project to improve sidewalks along the city's central district and commercial corridors.
Warren Director of Engineering Paul Makosky tells 21 News during Wednesday's Board of Control meeting, the state has authorized the city to advertise for bids on the project and construction is expected to begin in the summer.
The project was proposed back in 2021 and will focus on improving pedestrian access to these areas and reducing pedestrian-related crashes. The following streets will be a part of the project:
- Elm Road
- Mahoning Avenue
- Parkman Road
- West Market Street
- North Park Avenue
- South Street
- Summit Street
According to the project proposal, many of these corridors serve low-income neighborhoods that may not have access to vehicles. Additionally, others in these areas may need to use motorized wheelchairs as their mode of transportation.
The streets in these corridors have high traffic volumes, with the proposal listing average daily traffic (ADT) rates between 4,938 and 16,240 depending on the street.
That's why Makosky says it's imperative to keep these corridors safe and prevent pedestrian-related accidents.
The estimated cost of the project is $345,000 with 80% of that coming from Transportation Alternative Program (TAP) Funds.
A map of the roads that will be affected by this project is pictured below.
