A crash involving an SUV and a motorcycle shut down a stretch of highway Thursday morning in Columbiana County.

State Troopers say the motorcycle ran into a Chevy Equinox pulling into a driveway at around 8 a.m., temporarily closing Crestview Road, just west of State Route 7 in Fairfield Township.

Rescue squads were called out and a medical helicopter was dispatched to a nearby church to transport the motorcyclist.

According to a press release the driver of the Chevy Equinox suffered minor injuries. She was evaluated by Columbiana EMS and released from the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Meanwhile, the motorcyclist suffered "critical injuries and was flown to the hospital via a helicopter. Troopers say he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Columbiana County Fire and EMS and Beaver Township Fire and EMS assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.

With the summer months and warmer weather approaching, OSP is reminding Ohioans to stay alert for motorcyclists on the road.
