It took a few months, but thanks to a generous community, a Youngstown church has raised the $80,000 needed to fix a leaky roof.

New Vision New Day Ministry Pastor Robert Moore is thanking 21 News for publicizing his congregation's plight in January when winter weather escalated leaks and flooding at the aging building on Everett Avenue.

Water damage under three layers of patchworked roofs left the community center uninhabitable and unable to offer support to those in the surrounding area outside of its worship services.

In addition to warped doors and paint that had washed off walls, there was also damage to ceiling tiles where the leaks started and spread, leading some to crack.

Since Moore said his ministry's small congregation couldn't afford the roof replacement, the pastor put out a plea for the $80,000 needed to repair the community center's roof.

On Monday, Pastor Moore told 21 News that enough money had been raised to begin repair work this week.
