Vienna man convicted of strangling woman holding child pleads 'not guilty' to perjury

WARREN, Ohio - A Vienna man serving prison time for strangling a woman as she held a child was back in court again Tuesday to answer a perjury charge.
Thirty-one-year-old Kotey Paden was sentenced last month to two years in prison after pleading guilty to charges of strangulation, domestic violence, and child endangerment.
The charges stem from an incident in 2023 where Paden struck a woman and choked her while she was holding her son at his home.
The perjury charge was filed after Assistant Prosecutor Gabriel Wildman contacted Herman Breuer, Director of Trumbull County's Veteran Services Commission, to investigate Paden's military record.
Paden testified that he was a combat veteran serving overseas in the U.S. Military.
Investigators say that Paden did not just lie about his service, but was dishonorably discharged due to criminal offenses and did not serve overseas.
During Tuesday's hearing in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court, an attorney was appointed to represent Paden during future hearings.
