WARREN, Ohio - The Trumbull County Grand Jury has declined to indict a former Niles mayoral candidate on charges of aggravated menacing and intimidation.

In a report handed up on Wednesday, the grand jury returned a “no bill” in the case of George Kuriatnyk.

Niles Municipal Court submitted the case to the grand jury one month ago as Niles Mayor Steve Mientkiewicz was granted a protection order against Kuriatnyk.

Kuriatnyk had been accused of menacing Mientkiewicz on two separate instances within the past 18 months.

According to court documents Kuriatnyk got into a "menacing stance" against Mientkiewicz trying to provoke a physical altercation.

Kuriatnyk had also been accused of sending threatening text messages to a Council member, which included physical threats including that he was going to "take people out" and "eat the last bullet."

A court document alleged that at a March 20 City Council meeting, Kuriatnyk threatened Mientkiewicz telling him there would be consequences for his actions, that he would die defending his family, taking people with him, and that police would not stop him.
