YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Youngstown City Council has unanimously voted to approve $1.3 million in ARP funding including $800,000 for a proposed community center on the city's south side.

The community center would take up the building at 2525 Market Street, which was formerly a McDonald's restaurant. The City of Youngstown purchased the building for $161,000 back in 2022.

Sixth Ward Councilwoman Anita Davis recently told 21 News about her vision for this building describing it as a community center geared towards seniors, but open to everyone.

The building would be much more than just that though. Davis said it's also planned to act as an office space for city police officers, a warming and cooling station during the winter and summer months, a woman's pantry with a drive-thru and even a public access television station studio.

Davis also said a town hall meeting will be held Wednesday, May 22 at the Newport Library at 5:00 p.m. where the community is encouraged to share what they'd want to see in the building.
