This summer, two teachers from Hubbard and Liberty are going on an educational adventure.

Marla Dull, a teacher at Liberty PK-6, and Becky Buchenic, a teacher at Hubbard Middle School, have been selected as Fund for Teacher Fellows and will go on a journey west to improve their teaching skills and broaden their knowledge of astronomy and natural sciences.

"The primary focus of this trip is to gain invaluable experience and knowledge to enhance our classroom technology," Dull said. "By immersing ourselves in the wonders of astronomy and natural sciences, we hope to enhance our teaching practices and inspire our students with hands-on learning experiences."

The two were awarded a $10,000 grant, which will allow the two to go one an eleven-day expedition next month. The two will go to the Bryce Canyon Astronomy Festival, stargazing in Grand Teton National Park and exploring other national parks like Yellowstone.

They will also visit the Lowell Observatory, in Arizona, the site where Pluto was discovered, to look through the Dryer Telescope.

Dull and Buchenic are two of 363 teachers chosen nationwide for this opportunity. About 893 grant applications were submitted nationally, just 12 applications of 24 were selected from Ohio.

Fund for Teachers supports educators' efforts to develop skills, knowledge and confidence that impact student achievement, according to their webpage.
