Austintown Township Park opens 'Story Trails'

AUSTINTOWN TWP., Ohio - Visitors to Austintown Township Park may have already noticed that the trails there have a story to tell.
Signs telling children’s stories have been posted in the park by the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County and the Austintown Local School District.
The literacy project “Story Trails” allows families to walk along a path as they read a book and enjoy nature.
The annual project lets children and families share the joy of reading.
’Prioritizing literacy in our community is so important and this is just one of the many ways PLYMC is a literacy leader in the area, "said Erin Phemester, PLYMC's Chief Experience Officer.
Plans are being made to roll out Story Trails in five locations across Mahoning County.
Karen Lamm, a Kindergarten teacher at Austintown Elementary School suggested the idea.
The trail runs from the Pogany Pavilion to the fish pond deck.
The Story Trail will transition to Austintown Elementary School in August at the beginning of the school year.
