Suspect in deadly gas station shooting apprehended by Northern Ohio Violent Task Force
A suspect in a deadly gas station shooting in 2022 in Youngstown has been arrested.
The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested wanted fugitive 33-year-old Zachary Bair. Bair was wanted by the Youngstown Police Department on charges of aggravated murder.
According to the Youngstown Police Department, on December 22, 2022, officers responded to a gas station on the south side of Youngstown and found Devin Bell, 26, deceased.
Police said Bell was shot by two men wearing masks who fled on foot on Samuel Avenue after the shooting. One suspect, Akeem Hargrove, 31, was arrested a few days after Bell was killed and charged with aggravated murder. On May 17, the Youngstown Police Department issued a warrant for the arrest of Zachary Bair.
Bair was taken into custody at a business in the 600 block of Industrial Rd, in Youngstown, with the assistance of the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office.
U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated, “We could not be as successful at taking as many violent fugitives of the street as we do without the strong support of our local task force partners. Great work by the Youngstown Police Department to identify the second suspect in this investigation and thanks to the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office for their support in the safe arrest today.”
Bair is the second suspect charged in this case, the first being 31-year-old Akeem Hargrove. Hargrove has not been convicted in this shooting yet with his next court date being August 28 and a jury trial scheduled for September 9.
Police believe Hargrove and Bair to have been the two males wearing all-black clothing and ski masks fleeing the scene.
Captain Simon told 21 News that new evidence came up recently pointing to Bair as the second suspect in this shooting, and charges were filed after consultation with the Prosecutor's Office.
