A man and his pets escaped a house fire in Columbiana County Sunday morning.

First calls for the blaze went out around 9:48 a.m.

The Salem Fire Department was first to arrive at the home in the 1500 block of Grant Avenue in Perry Township.

Perry Township Fire Chief Brandon Smith told 21 News that all the animals made it out of the home.

The homeowner also got out but suffered burns on his feet and is being treated at the hospital.

Chief Smith said the fire began in the kitchen but they were able to put the flames out quickly.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
