Memorial Day is a time to remember why we enjoy the freedoms we do and the folks who gave their lives for us to enjoy it.

That's why cities and townships across the Valley held parades and services to honor those who have given their lives to preserve those freedoms.

In Warren, a ceremony was held at the Warren Community Amphitheatre honoring local veteran Richard Morgan Reese who died while serving in Vietnam and sharing his stories followed by a parade.

During the ceremony, Warren Mayor Doug Franklin took to the stand with to proclaim the day as Captain Richard Morgan Reese Day in the City of Warren.

Trumbull County Veteran Services Director Herman Breuer tells 21 News Reese's sister Mary, who lives in Dayton came back to Warren for the service.

Meanwhile Mahoning County, the City of Canfield held its own Memorial Day ceremony in its Veterans Plaza.

Following the service, a second ceremony was held to honor the lives of deceased veterans from the area and a final ceremony at the Canfield War Vets Museum to honor those whose names have been added to the Wall of Honor this year.

Those names include:

- Albert Mazzeo, (U.S. Army, killed in action during WWII)

- Dan McBride (U.S. Army, WWII)

- Richard Powell (U.S. Marine Corps, Killed in action in Vietnam)

- Norman Swaney (U.S. Army, prisoner of war during WWII)

In Struthers, a ceremony was held at Struthers High School followed by another ceremony at the Lake Park Cemetery.

Meanwhile, the City of Columbiana had its Memorial Day Parade hosted by the American Legion Post 290, and in the Shenango Valley, the City of Hermitage held its annual Memorial Day Parade followed by a memorial service at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
