Westbound traffic was snarled Tuesday morning along part of the Ohio Turnpike after a tractor-trailer rolled over in Mahoning County.

Callers told dispatchers that the truck was traveling east near the Gibson Road overpass in Canfield when it rolled into the oncoming westbound lane at around 8:30 a.m.

The Coca-Cola Company trailer was heavily damaged.

The driver was trapped but has since been removed by rescue crews.

A medical helicopter landed on the turnpike to take the victim to a hospital.

OSP tells 21 News the driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to be ok. Dispatchers say the driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time and believe that played a factor in saving the driver's life.

According to the Ohio Turnpike Commission, as of 9 a.m., both westbound lanes were blocked with traffic backed up for three miles.  As of 2:00 p.m. Friday, the road is still open, but drivers should expect lane restrictions during the removal process of the truck.

One of the truck’s fuel tanks is leaking. However, the spill has been blocked by first responders.
