The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has awarded a $36,735 grant the Mercer County Food Bank through its Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP).

Mercer County Food Bank served more than 2.2 million meals last year,” Rep. Parke Wentling said. “Between this funding and its many generous donors and volunteers, the Mercer County Food Bank will continue to be on the front lines of the fight against hunger.”

The organization recently reported that 13.9% of Mercer County's population, equal to 15,410 people including 4,390 children are living with food insecurity.

That's a 2% increase for the overall population and a 4.5% increase for children compared to the data last shared in 2021.

So far this year, the Mercer County Food Bank has distributed 1.1 million pounds of food, which is a 16% increase to this time last year.
