Lordstown passes ordinance banning recreational marijuana sales in village

Lordstown Village Council passed an ordinance Monday banning the sale of recreational marijuana in the village.
The ordinance passed after its third reading ahead of the potential start of recreational sales which could begin by mid-June.
Lordstown Council originally put the ordinance on the May 20 agenda as an emergency but ended up scheduling another reading.
Ohio voters approved Issue 2 last year, legalizing recreational marijuana in Ohio, but the amendment allows communities to create ordinances prohibiting adult-use recreational weed businesses.
According to the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, 56 communities have passed moratoriums on adult-use businesses as of May 31. Lisbon and Salem are included on that list.
Applications for existing medical marijuana dispensaries to sell non-medical marijuana products will be available no later than June 7.
