Democratic Congressional candidate calls Mike Rulli a 'mouthpiece for extremism'
Democratic Congressional candidate Michael Kripchak is slamming his Republican opponent and current Ohio State Senator Mike Rulli for a recent post on X, formally Twitter, calling Rulli a "mouthpiece for extremism."
The post in question reads as follows:
"Trump chose not to pursue charges against Hillary because he wanted to unite the country. Don't expect him to be so kind in his second term. Joe Biden and Alvin Bragg just changed the game. We are at war."
A press release from Kripchak's campaign calls the statement about being at war "alarming and dangerous" and says it echoes the sentiment of the riots at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
The release then goes on to address a comment from a third party on a separate post on Rulli's Facebook page that reads:
"I want Michael Rulli there on the next Jan 6 when we don't make the same mistakes again," followed by the statement, "This time, no one gets out alive."
"Mike Rulli's platform has become a mouthpiece for extremism and it is time to sound the alarm before it is too late. Encouraging violence and insurrection undermines the very foundation of our democracy," said a spokesperson for Kripchak's campaign.
21 News reached out to Rulli, who addressed the comments about the speech stating that the "we are at war" comment was figuratively speaking.
When asked about how rhetoric like this can be taken literally and acted upon, Rulli responded that he had never threatened violence in his political career and would never call for it.
In response to the third-party comment on the Facebook page, Rulli claimed it was made by a "Democrat troll" and that his team is dealing with the comment.
