West Branch wins first state baseball championship
The West Branch baseball team won the Division II State Championship with a 3-2 win over Hamilton Badin.
The Lions scored in the bottom on the fourth with a walk, sacrifice, balk to third before Xander Arnold delivered a sacrifice fly, scoring Austin Buckle.
The Warriors had a chance to score in the top of the third. They had the bases loaded on a walk and two hits basemen before Beau Chaney induced a ground ball out.
The Lions added a run in the bottom of the sixth on a fielding error.
The Warriors got their first hit in the sixth on a Beau Alazaus single to left.
West Branch put the first two batters on in the seventh. Following a sacrifice, Boston Mulinix followed with an infield hit scoring Maddox Coleman.
Aaron Tucker followed with fielder choice, tying the game at 2 before a passed ball scored Mulinix and a 3-2 lead.
West Branch had only three hits in the game.
It’s their first state baseball state championship in school history.
