Clock ticking for potential plea deal for final suspect in deadly Warren arson

WARREN, Ohio - The clock is ticking for attorneys to offer a potential plea deal for the final suspect in the deadly arson that claimed the life of a teenage girl in Warren.
During a pretrial hearing Tuesday afternoon, Judge Sean O'Brien and attorneys for 31-year-old Patricia Zarlingo discussed the possibility of a plea deal and a deadline for an offer to be made.
So far, Zarlingo has not been offered a plea deal of any kind, but Judge O'Brien says attorneys have until Friday, June 28 to come up with an offer, which if made, will be presented at another pre-trial hearing that day.
If no offer is made or Zarlingo rejects the offer, she will go on trial before a jury beginning July 23.
Zarlingo, who is currently charged with two counts each of aggravated murder, attempted aggravated murder and aggravated arson, as well as one count each of aggravated burglary and tampering with evidence is the last of three suspects in the deadly arson in Warren that killed 16-year-old Chassidy Broadstone in January of 2023.
One suspect Zackary Gurd pled guilty to his role in the crime back in December of 2023 and another suspect Brendan Daviduk entered a plea deal earlier in June to his role in the crime. Neither suspect has been sentenced yet.
Specifically, investigators say Gurd is the one who brought a can of gasoline to the home the night of the crime and Daviduk and Zarlingo were there to steal property as part of a dispute involving child support with some of the children in the home.
Chassidy was not one of the children involved in that dispute.
Currently, prosecutors are fighting a motion from Zarlingo's attorneys that challenges the allegation that she was a principal offender in the crime. No ruling was made on this motion at Tuesday's hearing.
