Liberty students and staff held a fundraising event for a beloved teacher, who is once again battling COVID-19, on Saturday.

Darnelle Clark, a first grade teacher has contracted COVID-19 and is on oxygen while medical bills for expensive treatments pile up.

Now the community is rallying around her to help pay those bills and make sure she gets the care she needs.

Known for her bubbly personality and going above and beyond for her students, she first got the virus in 2022 and her road to recover was fraught with unexpected challenges due to a compromised immune system and weak organs.

Clark has asthma and pre-existing medical conditions, which can exacerbate the symptoms and conditions brought on by the corona virus.

She is now getting care from the Cleveland Clinic and there are several treatments that can help her, but those come with a large price tag.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Clark cover the costs of her treatment. At last check, it has raised more than $39,790 from 701 donations.
