A second case against a Youngstown man convicted of rape has now entered a pre-trial stage.

Todd Perkins, 58, is charged with rape and gross sexual imposition for sexually abusing a child in 2015 and 2016. The pre-trial was scheduled for 9 a.m. on the morning of Tuesday, June 18th.

This case was originally a part of a previous conviction in which Perkins had been convicted of two counts of rape and sentenced to 15 years to life in prison back in 2021.

However, in 2022, an appeals court ruled that the court should have granted Perkins's request for separate trials for the two victims.

In April 2024, Perkins was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison on charges of rape and gross sexual imposition against the first of the two victims, who was 4-years-old at the time of the incident. Perkins must also register as a Tier 3 sex offender for the rest of his life.

The sentence was handed down by Judge Maureen Sweeney in the Mahoning County Common Pleas Court. Judge Sweeney will preside over the second trial against Perkins.

No trial date has been scheduled at this time. 21 News will provide updates on the trial when more information is available.
