A West Farmington teen has been identified as the victim of a fatal, fiery traffic crash in Trumbull County.

The Geauga County Coroner's Office tells 21 News that 15-year-old Daniel Southall died Sunday after he and two other teens were taken to University Hospital Geauga Medical Center.

Christopher Dray, the superintendent of Bristol Local Schools where Southall was a student, told 21 News that the school will have counselors available at the high school on Thursday, July 11, 2024, from 9 AM to noon for any students that need them.

The three teens were passengers in a Honda Accord that ran off Ensign Road, west of Girdle Road in Farmington Township just after 3 a.m., striking a tree before catching fire. The other two passengers were taken later to Metro Health for treatment of potentially life-threatening injuries.

Due to life-threatening injuries, the driver of the car was taken to Trumbull Regional Medical Center and then to Akron Children's Hospital in Akron.

The speed of the car and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash, according to OSHP which says only the driver was wearing a seat belt.
