A 17-year-old boy accused of killing a 19-year-old on Youngstown's south side back in June is set to go on trial in September.

Mahoning County Juvenile Court employees tell 21 News the 17-year-old accused of killing 19-year-old Zariyah Dothard on the 500 Block of East Judson Avenue in June of 2024 is set to go on trial Monday, September 9 at 9:00 a.m.

The suspect will be tried as a juvenile. He is charged with one count of murder with a firearm specification. He's due back in juvenile court for a pretrial hearing July 31.

The charge stems from a shooting that occurred on the 500 Block of East Judson Avenue where Dothard was found laying in a driveway with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

The suspect was turned in to police by family members soon after.
