Arrest made in connection with homicide on Youngstown's east side

Youngstown Police have arrested one suspect in connection with a homicide on Youngstown's east side.
According to a press release, 22-year-old Samuel Perez was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the homicide of 22-year-old Angel Sostre back in June of 2024.
According to police, the homicide happened shortly before 2:30 the morning of Tuesday June 18. Sostre's body was not found until around 5:30 a.m. behind a row of apartments on the 600 Block of McBride Street.
Police say Sostre died from a gunshot wound.
Police say the arrest stemmed from a call for service on Berkley Avenue where Perez was arrested for felony drug charges. Police say Perez was also a person on interest in Sostre's homicide, so he was brought in for questioning by police.
After an interrogation, review of evidence and consultation with a prosecutor, a charge of murder was filed against Perez.
Perez is booked in the Mahoning County Jail for possession of drugs and murder.
He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday, July 10
