Youngstown Police were busy over the weekend investigating multiple reports of gunfire around the city.

Early Saturday morning, officers were called to the 500 block block of N. Richview Avenue a little after 5 am for a report of gunfire. Police located seven spent 9mm shell casings on the at Manhatten and Smithfield avenues.

One home on Mahatten was hit five times with bullets, but the two people inside the house were not injured. Officers collected the shell casings that went through a first-floor window, one through a wall, one through the porch roof, and one through an upstairs window. The casings were logged into the YPD evidence room.

On Sunday, around 3:30 pm, officers were called to Wick Avenue near Bissell Avenue on the city's North Side for a report of a passenger firing a gun from a vehicle. No injuries were reported.

The city's gunfire detection technology reported hearing gunfire in the 200 block of Dewey Avenue around 4:47 p.m. on Sunday. Officers were also notified of cars chasing each other and exchanging gunfire. A resident near the scene told officers it sounded like a machine gun. Officers retrieved three .45 caliber bullet casings found on the road.
