The Salem Community Theatre is closing its season with a Tony Award winning play.

The Salem Community Theatre is having three final performances of "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" before the season ends.

The last shows are at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at its location at 490 E State Street in Salem.

"The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" features a variety of contestants all clamoring for the title of spelling champion. The characters range from the socially awkward but confident William Barfee to the Leaf Coneybear, a lovable oddball from a quirky family.

Adult characters are also an eccentric bunch. Mitch Mahoney is a tough-as-nails ex-convict turned counselor and Rona Lisa Peretti is the moderator and former spelling bee champion.

You can expect musical numbers and the exploration of friendship and acceptance at the show.

Tickets are available on the theatre's website.
